PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Rzaner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rzaner comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Notorious B.I.G Vs. Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Biggie Love kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Shane Rzaner told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane Rzaner!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza moves in looking to clinch but Rzaner pushes him off.

Rzaner shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rzaner showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Souza tries to roll over but Rzaner keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rzaner is pressing down on Souza's thigh, looking to free his foot. Souza is holding on for now.

Rzaner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Souza did well to prevent Rzaner getting side control.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rzaner in particular looking to stall.
I looks like Rzaner might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Shane Rzaner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Rzaner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Souza's guard.
Rzaner is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rzaner can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rzaner pulls Souza in close to his closed guard and prevents Souza from doing any damage or advancing position.

Rzaner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Souza defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Souza shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rzaner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Souza lands a couple of elbows.
Rzaner is adopting a defensive guard.
Souza wanted to stand there but Rzaner had control of the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rzaner kicks Souza off and gets to his feet.

Shane Rzaner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
