The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assman stuffs the takedown attempt from Figurs. Figurs gets slowly back to his feet.
Assman lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Figurs backs up against the cage.

Figurs swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Assman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Assman stalks Figurs and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Figurs's face. Figurs staggers backwards, shaken.
Figurs looks gassed!

Assman goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Figurs throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brett Assman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Assman throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Figurs stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Assman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Figurs's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Assman throws a series of strikes that have Figurs backpedaling.
Figurs swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Assman counter with a right hand.

Figurs closes the distance and clinches up with Assman, looking for a takedown. Figurs pushes Assman against the cage but Assman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Figurs drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Figurs feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brett Assman.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Assman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
