PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between manny makunouchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georges Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). makunouchi comes to the cage accompanied by sandstorm. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Georges Edgar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Edgar throws a body punch but makunouchi moves out of range.
Edgar thows a body shot but no joy.
Edgar defends well against a solid takedown attempt from makunouchi.

makunouchi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edgar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten makunouchi somewhat.

Edgar dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on makunouchi. That did some damage!

makunouchi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Edgar's waist but Edgar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing makunouchi off to one side.

makunouchi shoots in looking for a takedown. Edgar tries to sprawl out of it but makunouchi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Edgar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Edgar cracks makunouchi with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

makunouchi drops back looking for a leg! Edgar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Edgar manages to kick makunouchi off! makunouchi jumps back into Edgar's guard.
makunouchi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Edgar can do anything to dispel that myth.

makunouchi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Edgar sprawls well. Edgar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. makunouchi gets slowly back to his feet.

makunouchi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Edgar lands a straight punch to the body, keeping makunouchi at a distance.
makunouchi misses with a takedown attempt - Edgar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
makunouchi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Edgar is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by makunouchi.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

makunouchi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Edgar is trying to defend but makunouchi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
makunouchi uses his free foot to push down on Edgar's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Edgar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

makunouchi looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

makunouchi is working for a guillotine from mount but Edgar frees his head quite easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

makunouchi is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Edgar is surviving well by controlling makunouchi's body position as best he can.

makunouchi is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Edgar has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

makunouchi looking to break Edgar's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Edgar remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise makunouchi will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

makunouchi is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Edgar defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

makunouchi is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
