PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between steven jason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kook Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kook Connor was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kook Connor!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

jason has Connor up against the cage in a clinch.
Connor blocks a body shot from jason.
jason doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

jason pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Connor.
Connor throws a head kick but jason moves out of range.
Connor tries to close the distance and clinch but jason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Connor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
jason takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Connor tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and jason counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Connor!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
jason avoids the attempt from Connor to control.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, jason cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

jason has the hooks in. Connor is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
jason lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Connor.
Connor is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by jason.
Will jason go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Connor trying to control the hands but jason won't let him.
jason lands strikes to the head.
jason lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Connor really doesn't want to stay on the ground with jason. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Will jason go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Connor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and jason holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Connor crunches a lovely knee into jason's ribcage.
jason tries to pull guard but Connor holds him up against the cage and eventually jason drops back down to his feet.
Connor slowing the pace effectively.
Connor with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Connor breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

jason throws a half hearted mid kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Connor wants to land a leg kick but jason is out of range.
jason fails with an attempt to clinch.
Connor is breathing heavily.

Kook Connor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
jason shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Connor as he avoids it easily.

Connor doesn't manage to clinch there - jason circles away.

jason moves into range and clinches up with Connor.

Connor misses with some punches.
Connor scores with a hook to the body.
jason fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for steven jason. That's going to take a lot out of him.
jason is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Connor pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Connor tries a knee to the head but jason blocks it.

jason gets control of Connor's arms and successfully pulls guard. jason will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Connor won't allow jason to sweep him here.

jason lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Connor!

jason takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Connor can do anything to dispel that myth.

jason connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Connor is squirming around, avoiding jason's attempts to control the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Connor tries to control jason's body but jason pushes him off. Connor squirms to his side and now jason has his back!

jason has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Connor is trying to break free.
Connor wants to get back to his feet.
jason is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
jason seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Connor for as long as he can get away with.
