PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Goyce Racie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cliff Sierra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sierra has chosen Sweet Dreams-Manson as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Goyce Racie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cliff Sierra!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sierra shoots in looking for a takedown. Racie tries to sprawl out of it but Sierra keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Racie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Racie misses with a takedown
and Sierra makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Sierra tries to bum rush Racie with a series of wild strikes but Racie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Racie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sierra's half guard.
Sierra is trying to get back to full guard.
Racie stalling.
Racie is pressing down on Sierra's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sierra is holding on for now.
Sierra controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Racie tries to pass to full mount but Sierra defends it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Racie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sierra manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Racie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Racie throwing shots but Sierra is blocking nicely.

Racie is looking for a kimura but Sierra is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Racie to get the leverage.

Racie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sierra defends it well.
Sierra is not content to let Racie control the position.

Racie wants to work for an arm triangle but Sierra is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close round but I would say that Goyce Racie will probably get the nod.

Sierra dives in and grabs Racie's left leg, looking for a takedown. Racie pushes down on Sierra's head and hops out.

Racie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sierra tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Racie is in Sierra's guard.
Sierra is pulling down on Racie's head. It's preventing any offense from Racie, at least for the moment.

Racie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sierra!

Racie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Racie with a couple of short strikes.
Sierra is desperately trying to improve his position but Racie has a good base and remains in mount.

Racie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sierra has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sierra!
Sierra must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Racie is trying to control the position but Sierra postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Goyce Racie just wasn't active enough.
Racie looks to clinch

so Sierra counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sierra won't allow Racie to sweep him here.

Sierra really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Racie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Racie shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sierra napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee asks Racie politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Racie prefers to stall for the moment though.
Sierra is looking for a sweep.
Racie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sierra keeps working.

Racie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Racie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Racie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Racie looking to control but Sierra is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Sierra is looking to get to half guard.
Racie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sierra is looking to escape.

Racie prevents Sierra from getting the reversal.

Racie tries to control but Sierra wriggling away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cliff Sierra has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Goyce Racie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sierra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Racie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sierra won't allow Racie to sweep him here.

Sierra drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sierra jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sierra takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Racie is pulling down on Sierra's head. It's preventing any offense from Sierra, at least for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Racie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sierra defends it easily.
Sierra working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Racie's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Goyce Racie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Racie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
