Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Cowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio da Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). da Costa is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Da Boondocks. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Cowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio da Costa!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
da Costa lands a jab-cross combination.
da Costa shoots in for a takedown but Cowen shows good takedown defense.
da Costa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cowen's waist but Cowen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing da Costa off to one side.
Cowen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from da Costa.
Jim Cowen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio da Costa.
da Costa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cowen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

da Costa breaks from Cowen's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

da Costa is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cowen has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cowen!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
da Costa seems keen to control Cowen's posture.
da Costa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cowen is one step ahead there.
da Costa is pulling down on Cowen's head. It's preventing any offense from Cowen, at least for the moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Antonio da Costa wasn't active enough on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A head kick from da Costa lands but Cowen takes it in his stride.

da Costa throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cowen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. da Costa is in Cowen's guard.

da Costa throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

da Costa misses with a takedown attempt - Cowen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

da Costa throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cowen was covering up waiting for the punch and da Costa finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cowen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
da Costa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Cowen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
da Costa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cowen holds on and takes a little breather.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
da Costa closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cowen circles away.
da Costa shoots in for a takedown but Cowen shows good takedown defense.

and Cowen counters with a leg kick.

and Cowen counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
da Costa takes an elbow to the forehead.
Cowen tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Cowen lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
da Costa pushes off an throws an elbow but Cowen leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

da Costa has hold of one of Cowen's legs. Cowen is fighting the takedown attempt but da Costa gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cowen pulls da Costa in close to prevent any damage.
da Costa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

da Costa stands up and waves to Cowen to follow him.

Antonio da Costa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Cowen just misses with a elbow thrown towards da Costa's brow.
Cowen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

da Costa has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Cowen is trying to keep an underhook but da Costa manages to get the takedown into half guard.

da Costa wants to work for an arm triangle but Cowen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cowen tries to kick da Costa off but da Costa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

da Costa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cowen wants to stand but da Costa is controlling the position.
da Costa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cowen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Antonio da Costa has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Antonio da Costa was stalling too much, according to the referee.

da Costa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cowen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cowen tries to kick da Costa off in order to stand up. da Costa Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

da Costa wants to control but Cowen is keeping him busy.
Cowen is trying to get back to his feet.

da Costa stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Cowen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Antonio da Costa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got da Costa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
