PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joey Rigatoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerome Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter has chosen Ludacris-Move Bitch as his entrance music. Joey Rigatoni had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joey Rigatoni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jerome Carter!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carter on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Rigatoni looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carter!

Rigatoni jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Carter is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Carter and Rigatoni has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Carter regains half guard.
Carter blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rigatoni.
Rigatoni prevents Carter from standing back up.
Carter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Carter.
Rigatoni tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.

Rigatoni tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Rigatoni tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rigatoni has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rigatoni throws an elbow but Carter slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rigatoni throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Rigatoni trying to control the action but Carter is working from the bottom.

Rigatoni tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rigatoni has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Carter tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Carter prevents Rigatoni from moving into mount.
Rigatoni lands a few punches from side control.
Carter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rigatoni asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter is trying to get back to half guard.

Rigatoni is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Carter throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Rigatoni is breathing heavily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rigatoni shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carter pinned against the cage. Carter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carter misses with a jab, cross combination.

Rigatoni takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Carter looks to land a right hand but Rigatoni moved out of range.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Rigatoni bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rigatoni leaves Carter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carter throws a body kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jerome Carter will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rigatoni's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Carter looks to land a combination but Rigatoni avoids it well.
Carter fails with a takedown attempt.
Carter swats away the attempt to clinch by Rigatoni.

Carter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
You can see the frustration on Rigatoni's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rigatoni trying to remain calm as Carter controls from the top position.
Rigatoni tries to improve position but can't.
Carter is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rigatoni will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Rigatoni can't do much from the bottom here.

Carter is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Rigatoni's shoulder. That is not cool.
Carter has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Carter tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Let's hope that Carter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Carter prevents Rigatoni from getting the reversal.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jerome Carter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Carter throws a body punch but Rigatoni moves out of range.
Carter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rigatoni.
Carter throws a right hand that Rigatoni ducks under and follows up with a left that Rigatoni also avoids with ease.

Carter looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Carter won't allow Rigatoni to get back to his feet.
Rigatoni is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Carter tries to free his leg and advance position but Rigatoni is retaining full guard.
Carter is stalling in the full guard.

Rigatoni working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rigatoni wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Carter manages to pass to side control.

Carter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jerome Carter was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Carter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rigatoni counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Carter pulls Rigatoni in close to his closed guard and prevents Rigatoni from doing any damage or advancing position.

Rigatoni drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Carter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rigatoni has Carter in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerome Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Carter bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rigatoni's head.

Carter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Jerome Carter has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Rigatoni fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Carter darts in and clinches Rigatoni up against the cage.
Rigatoni has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Carter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Carter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Carter fails to land with a series of punches.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rigatoni.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Rigatoni. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rigatoni.

The fight stays on the outside here - Carter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Rigatoni counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Carter is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Carter prevents Rigatoni from breaking the clinch.

Carter manages to break the clinch.
Carter's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Carter duly obliges.
Carter tries to clinch but Rigatoni moves away

so Rigatoni counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carter is on top in guard.
Carter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Carter gets to his feet. Rigatoni looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Rigatoni tries to clinch there but Carter circles away.
Carter throws a one two combo.

Rigatoni scores a takedown into full mount!
Rigatoni lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Carter holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rigatoni tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Carter tries to lock up and control but Rigatoni gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rigatoni throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Carter because Rigatoni loaded up on that one.
Carter manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Rigatoni is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Rigatoni is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jerome Carter.
Well Carter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
