PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cajo Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emman Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rivera's choice of entrance music: Party like it's 2012. Cajo Melo has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cajo Melo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Emman Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Melo sprawls well. Melo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rivera gets slowly back to his feet.
Melo looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Rivera looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rivera lands a big head kick that sends Melo tumbling to the mat! Rivera takes a step backwards and waves Melo back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Cajo Melo has been cut.

Rivera gets the takedown into side control.

Rivera thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rivera should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Rivera shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Melo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rivera misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Rivera throws a series of punches but Melo moves out of range.
Rivera closes the distance and clinches up with Melo, looking for a takedown. Rivera pushes Melo against the cage but Melo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No luck for Rivera with that takedown attempt.
Rivera misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Melo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rivera.
Cajo Melo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emman Rivera.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Melo.
Rivera moves in looking to clinch but Melo pushes him off.

Melo swats away the attempt to clinch by Rivera.
Rivera lands a head kick. Melo smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rivera decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Melo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rivera throws a big right hand that misses.

Melo controls Rivera momentarily but Rivera frees himself.

Rivera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rivera stands up from Melo's guard - Rivera perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rivera with a poor takedown

so Melo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rivera is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Melo wants to control from the top but Rivera keeps moving.
Melo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivera is trying to keep Melo in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rivera is trying to control but Melo passes into side control!
You can see the frustration on Rivera's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rivera manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Rivera wants to take a breather but Melo is having none of it.

Melo wants to get back to his feet.
Rivera tries to pass to full mount but Melo defends it.
Rivera stalling.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Emman Rivera.
Melo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters circling a little - Rivera finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rivera shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Melo is trying to defend but Rivera finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rivera is trying to control the action in half guard but Melo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cajo Melo showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Melo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
