PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Kinlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kinlaw's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Numb-Linkin Park. Ross comes into a darkened arena with his song building. MVP-Ludacris kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Justin Kinlaw could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ronnie Ross's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Kinlaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Ross!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kinlaw drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ross is looking for a sweep.
Kinlaw staying calm.
Ross throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Ross is looking for a sweep.
Ross is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Ross manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Ross throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ross swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ross.
Kinlaw keeps the fight on the outside.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ross misses with the head strike.
Kinlaw lands a body shot in the clinch.

Ross stalling in the clinch but Kinlaw improves position.

Kinlaw is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ross is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kinlaw to the mat. Kinlaw regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ross tries to stand but Kinlaw is controlling from the bottom.

Ross throws a strike but Kinlaw rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Kinlaw passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Ross is looking to regain half guard here but Kinlaw keeps moving and retains side control.

Kinlaw has the hooks in. Ross is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Ross manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kinlaw's guard. Nice work there by Ross.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ross wants to stand but Kinlaw has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Ross gets to his feet - Kinlaw follows without any prompting.

Kinlaw feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ross manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ross controlling the pace for now.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ross closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ross decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kinlaw to his feet.

Kinlaw pulls Ross in to control the position.
Ross loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kinlaw with a poor takedown

and Ross counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kinlaw won't be happy with that.

Ronnie Ross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Kinlaw's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Kinlaw lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Kinlaw is pressed up against the cage. Ross has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kinlaw down to the mat. Kinlaw avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kinlaw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ross swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Kinlaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ross buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Ross clinches up with Kinlaw and pushes him back against the cage.

Ronnie Ross comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ross has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
