PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Voorhees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Voorhees kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is St. Anger. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Voorhees!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jorge Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Voorhees shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Voorhees showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Voorhees takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Voorhees is working for a kimura but Murphy is defending it quite comfortably.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Murphy is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Voorhees wants to take a breather but Murphy is having none of it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jason Voorhees wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Voorhees shoots in and drives through. Murphy sprawls well.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Murphy moves into the clinch.
Voorhees tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Murphy just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Voorhees has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Murphy uses from the top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Jason Voorhees wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Voorhees shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Murphy but Murphy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Murphy tries to clinch there but Voorhees circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Voorhees decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Voorhees in particular looking to stall.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Murphy can do anything to dispel that myth.

Voorhees decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Murphy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Murphy lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Voorhees circles away quickly and effectively.

Voorhees shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Murphy sprawls well. Murphy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Voorhees gets slowly back to his feet.
Voorhees throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Murphy's waist but Murphy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Voorhees off to one side.

Voorhees throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Murphy lunges at Voorhees with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Voorhees's hand.
Voorhees tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Murphy swivels and escapes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The cut man is working on Jason Voorhees's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Murphy fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Murphy tries to bum rush Voorhees with a series of wild strikes but Voorhees uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Horrible takedown by Voorhees or perhaps it was just good defense by Murphy which made him look bad.

Voorhees shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Murphy as he jumps to the side.

Murphy looks to score with a jab to the body but Voorhees is just out of range.
Murphy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Voorhees moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Murphy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Murphy wants it to stay on the feet.
Murphy moves in looking to clinch but Voorhees pushes him off.
Murphy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Donk. Murphy catches Voorhees right on the button with a cross.
Murphy is looking to clinch but Voorhees is avoiding it.

Murphy pushes Voorhees up against the ropes in a clinch.
Voorhees is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Voorhees pulls Murphy into guard.
Voorhees has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Voorhees is looking to sweep but instead, Murphy has passed into half guard.

Murphy tries to stand and escape but Voorhees is controlling the position.

Voorhees is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Murphy's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Murphy's back!
Murphy covering up well under a series of strikes from Voorhees.
Murphy trying to get back to his feet but Voorhees is in full control for now.
Murphy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Voorhees. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Voorhees is looking to control Murphy but Murphy is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Murphy has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Voorhees keeps control of the position easily here as Murphy tries to buck him off.

Jorge Murphy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Murphy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
