PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Cobos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gordon is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Beach Boys. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobos throws a series of punches but Gordon avoids them all with ease.
Cobos shoots for a takedown but Gordon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A head kick misses from Gordon.
Gordon wants to clinch up but Cobos keeps it at a distance.
Cobos tries to bum rush Gordon with a series of wild strikes but Gordon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cobos throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cobos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lucas Cobos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A combination from Cobos does no damage.
Cobos throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Cobos pushes Gordon up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cobos goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gordon prevents it.
Cobos blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gordon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gordon prevents Cobos from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cobos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Cobos won't allow Gordon to sweep him here.
Gordon is breathing heavily.

Cobos throws and elbow that misses. Gordon uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cobos's guard. Nice move by Gordon!

Cobos pushes Gordon off and gets back to his feet.
Cobos tries to close the distance and clinch but Gordon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cobos misses with the combination.
Cobos throws a nice looking combination but Gordon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gordon moves out of range of the strikes.
Cobos misses with a hook.
Gordon blocks a head kick by Cobos.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gordon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cobos fails to land with a series of punches.
Cobos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice takedown defense from Gordon. No joy for Cobos on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Cobos. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alan Gordon wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cobos scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Cobos jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Gordon looks to clinch
and Cobos counters with a two punch combo.
Gordon moves in looking to clinch but Cobos pushes him off.
Cobos throws a head kick that misses
letting Gordon counter with a right hand.
Cobos shoots for a double leg takedown but Gordon sprawls well. He's pushed Cobos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gordon tries to land knees in the clinch but Cobos avoids the damage to the body.

Cobos is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gordon gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cobos on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cobos tries to get out of the position.
Gordon wanted to stand there but Cobos had control of the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lucas Cobos.
Well Cobos has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
