Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pirate Everett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gavin Heckingstall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Pirate Everett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gavin Heckingstall!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Heckingstall feints and as Everett raises his hands in defense, Heckingstall changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Heckingstall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Heckingstall looking to pass the guard.
Heckingstall wants to control from the top but Everett keeps moving.
Heckingstall looking to sit in guard and control but Everett gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Everett might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Heckingstall striking off his back but it's not causing Everett any problems.

Heckingstall looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Heckingstall pushes Everett off and gets back to his feet.

Everett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Heckingstall keeps working.

Heckingstall trying to control but Everett postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Everett is keen to just control but Heckingstall is a slippery customer.
Everett throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Everett content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Heckingstall is looking for a sweep. Everett is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Heckingstall blocks a head kick by Everett.
Everett is looking to slow Heckingstall down with leg kicks.
Heckingstall throws out a leg kick but Everett moves out of range and Heckingstall only half commits.
Everett thuds his right hand into Heckingstall's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Heckingstall misses with a takedown attempt

and Everett counters by moving into the clinch.

Everett is trying to trip Heckingstall. He has hold of a leg but Heckingstall is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Everett persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Everett would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Heckingstall looking for a sweep. Not yet Heckingstall, not yet.
Heckingstall looking to control.
Heckingstall keeping moving, preventing Everett from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Everett.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Everett decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Heckingstall's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Heckingstall throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Everett avoids a wild elbow strike from Heckingstall.
Heckingstall fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Everett tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A body shot lands from Heckingstall.

Heckingstall shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Everett is trying to maintain the position but Heckingstall is very close to passing his half guard.
Everett is staying active underneath Heckingstall, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Everett is trying to control but can't.
Heckingstall keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Heckingstall rushes Everett and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Heckingstall has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Everett uses from the top position.
Heckingstall is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The fighters are battling for position here. Heckingstall manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Everett wants to control from the top but Heckingstall keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Heckingstall looking to control.
Everett not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Pirate Everett overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pirate Everett has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Heckingstall chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Heckingstall bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Heckingstall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Heckingstall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Heckingstall decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gavin Heckingstall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Everett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Heckingstall tries to reverse the position but Everett maintains control.
Heckingstall manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Heckingstall avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Everett.
Heckingstall wants to control but Everett is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Everett content to control rather than advance.
Heckingstall slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Everett drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Heckingstall dives on top into guard.
Heckingstall won't allow Everett to get back to his feet.
Heckingstall trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Heckingstall trying to stand up but can't free himself from Everett's guard.
Heckingstall passes Everett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Heckingstall trying to control the pace.
Everett wants to control but Heckingstall is keeping busy.
Everett is trying to stand up here but Heckingstall is controlling him well.
Heckingstall lands with a punch from half guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Everett here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Heckingstall works his foot free and advances to mount.
Heckingstall content just to control the position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pirate Everett.
I think Everett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
