PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trent Chapel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Hallow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Chapel might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Madsen - Nitro. Hallow has chosen AC/DC - Hells Bells as his entrance music. Trent Chapel has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trent Chapel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brad Hallow!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hallow tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chapel was well out of range. Poor timing from Hallow.

Hallow drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Chapel manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Chapel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Chapel prevents Hallow from standing back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chapel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hallow keeps working.
Hallow taking some punishment here, with Chapel in his half guard.
Chapel tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hallow knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Chapel with the ground and pound but Hallow uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Hallow utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Chapel wants to pass the guard but Hallow is keeping the position.

Chapel scores with a couple of short elbows.

Hallow is trying to buck Chapel off.
Hallow is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Chapel wants to control for a moment but Hallow uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Chapel thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hallow to regain full guard.
Hallow is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Chapel tries to free his leg and advance position but Hallow is retaining full guard.
Chapel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chapel works over Hallow with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chapel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hallow manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chapel has Hallow in his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chapel holds on and takes a little breather.
Hallow wanted to stand there but Chapel had control of the position.

Chapel has his foot on Hallow's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hallow works his way back into a safe position though.

Hallow wants to stand but Chapel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Chapel wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Chapel looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Chapel lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hallow!
Hallow is controlling an arm, preventing Chapel from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Hallow is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chapel is looking to slow Hallow down with leg kicks.
Chapel fails with a takedown attempt.
Chapel avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hallow doesn't manage to clinch there - Chapel circles away.
Chapel ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Hallow pushes Chapel off looking to stand but Chapel dives back in and keeps control.
Hallow is staying active underneath Chapel, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Chapel not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hallow avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chapel.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Chapel is looking for a kimura but Hallow is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chapel to get the leverage.
Chapel sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hallow defending well though.
Hallow is trying to stand.
Hallow is breathing heavily.
Chapel landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Hallow looks like he's trying to stand up.

Chapel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hallow is trying to stand up here but Chapel is controlling him well.

Chapel works his foot free and advances to mount.
Chapel has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hallow's face.

Chapel wants to finish this one by submission but Hallow is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Chapel.

Chapel is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hallow has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hallow!

Chapel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hallow's guard.
Hallow wants to get back to his feet but Chapel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hallow is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Chapel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hallow pushes Chapel off looking to stand but Chapel dives back in and keeps control.

Chapel seems to be looking for submissions.

Chapel is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hallow defends it well.
Chapel wants to take a breather but Hallow is having none of it.

Chapel uses his free foot to push down on Hallow's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hallow.
Chapel is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hallow can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Trent Chapel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chapel won't let Hallow get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Hallow is in a horrible position here. Chapel smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Chapel goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hallow turns into him and now he's in Chapel's guard.
Chapel has a closed guard, preventing Hallow from standing up.
Chapel looking to control.

Chapel is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chapel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Chapel pulls Hallow in close to prevent any damage.
Hallow has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chapel is proving hard to escape from.
Brad Hallow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hallow is looking to work some ground and pound but Chapel has wrist control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hallow wants to get up but he can't break Chapel's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Chapel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hallow's guard.

Hallow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chapel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hallow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hallow keeping moving, preventing Chapel from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Trent Chapel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chapel has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
