PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Cobos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Albert Mortero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lucas Cobos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Albert Mortero!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mortero throws a right hand that Cobos ducks under and follows up with a left that Cobos also avoids with ease.

Cobos feints and as Mortero raises his hands in defense, Cobos changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Cobos is in close to Mortero's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Mortero throws a left and a right that both miss

and Cobos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mortero!
Cobos has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cobos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mortero's face.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lucas Cobos.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cobos closes the distance and clinches up with Mortero, looking for a takedown. Cobos pushes Mortero against the cage but Mortero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cobos, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
