The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

DeMarco fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Thompson sprawls well initially but DeMarco persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
DeMarco is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
DeMarco has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Thompson is looking for a sweep. DeMarco is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

DeMarco is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

DeMarco is looking for a kimura here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
DeMarco is nestled in close to Thompson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

DeMarco is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thompson is just riding it out for now. DeMarco eventually gives up the hold.
Thompson is looking to control DeMarco's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Thompson avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeMarco takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
DeMarco is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Thompson is surviving well by controlling DeMarco's body position as best he can.
