PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kosuki Masahara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and West Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kosuki Masahara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, West Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masahara takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Santiago misses with the combination.
Santiago jabs Masahara right on the nose. Masahara blinks but takes it well.
Santiago throws a nice looking combination but Masahara bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
West Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santiago throws the left hand but Masahara avoids the punch easily.
Santiago misses with a wild combination.
Masahara is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Santiago scores with a one two! Masahara had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

and Masahara counters with a head kick. That will keep Santiago thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Santiago has taken the fight to the clinch.

Santiago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Santiago tries to bum rush Masahara with a series of wild strikes but Masahara uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Santiago throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Masahara darts in trying to clinch
and Santiago counters with a three punch combo that has Masahara backing up. Masahara nods at Santiago to acknowledge the strikes.
Santiago tries a head kick but it misses.

Santiago instigates a clinch.
Masahara has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Santiago avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Santiago is trying to break the clinch but Masahara is controlling him.

Masahara jumps guard.

Masahara is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Santiago is aware though and is defending well.

Masahara has his foot on Santiago's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Santiago works his way back into a safe position though.

Santiago gets to his feet. Masahara looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Santiago rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Masahara moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Santiago wants to get up but he can't break Masahara's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Santiago avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Masahara is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santiago defends well.
Masahara has a closed guard, preventing Santiago from standing up.
Santiago is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Masahara has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Santiago can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Santiago has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Masahara is proving hard to escape from.
Santiago must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Masahara has his feet on Santiago's thighs here. He's pushed Santiago off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Santiago screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
