PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bill Hickok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Schulte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hickok kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ari Gold - Let's Hug It Out, BITCH. Brian Schulte acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bill Hickok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Schulte!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schulte swats away the attempt to clinch by Hickok.
Hickok misses with a kick to the body.
Hickok keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schulte swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Hickok connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Brian Schulte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hickok tries to clinch but Schulte is having none of it.

Schulte throws a lazy uppercut

and Hickok counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hickok is trying to control the action in half guard but Schulte is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hickok prevents Schulte from improving his position.
Schulte is trying to control but can't.
Hickok takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Schulte is looking for a sweep. Hickok is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hickok wants to pass to mount but Schulte is defending the position.

Hickok wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schulte keeps working.

We're going to have a standup here because Bill Hickok wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hickok tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Schulte manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Hickok counters with a takedown into side control.
Schulte tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Schulte is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hickok taking a break here but Schulte is having none of it and regains half guard.
Schulte is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hickok with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Schulte trying to control from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Hickok seems content to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bill Hickok.
Hickok digs a good body shot into Schulte's ribs.
Hickok misses with a hook
and Schulte cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Hickok scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hickok blocks a jab.
Schulte slips a jab from Hickok.
Hickok throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Schulte looks to land a left hand but Hickok moved out of range nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schulte tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hickok was well out of range. Poor timing from Schulte.

Schulte misses with a hook to the body

and Hickok counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hickok keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Hickok is thwarting Schulte's attempts to control the position.
Schulte tries to roll over but Hickok keeps him under control.
Hickok is taking a breather. Schulte says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hickok seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schulte does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bill Hickok.
Schulte thows a leg kick but Hickok checks it

and Hickok counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Schulte managing to control the position.
Hickok stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schulte swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Schulte trying to keep a closed guard but Hickok is proving a slippery customer.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Brian Schulte has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hickok stuffs the takedown attempt from Schulte. Schulte gets slowly back to his feet.
Schulte lands a jab to the nose.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Schulte misses with a jab to the body
and Hickok makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Schulte throws a low kick but Hickok moves out of range easily.
Hickok takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Schulte throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Hickok to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bill Hickok dominated that second round.
That's time! Hickok's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Schulte misses with an uppercut

and Hickok counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.


It looks like Brian Schulte has been cut.

Schulte is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Schulte has control of Hickok's left arm, preventing Hickok from doing any damage.
Schulte is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hickok is looking to control Schulte's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hickok avoid being mounted?

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Schulte is thwarting Hickok's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hickok blocking the ground and pound attempt from Schulte.
Hickok tries to roll over but Schulte keeps him under control.
Hickok on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Schulte works his way into full mount!
Schulte lands a big elbow.

Hickok is looking to get to half guard.
Schulte is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hickok regains half guard.
Schulte throws a strike but Hickok avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Schulte chips away with some ground and pound.
Schulte throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Schulte loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Schulte looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Schulte is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Hickok keeping moving, preventing Schulte from controlling successfully.
Schulte throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hickok works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Schulte won't allow Hickok to sweep him here.
Schulte wants to control from the top but Hickok keeps moving.
Schulte prevents Hickok from getting back to his feet.
Hickok is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hickok is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian Schulte comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hickok has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
