PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between San Sebastian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alistair De Jong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, San Sebastian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alistair De Jong!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sebastian circles away from the clinch attempt.
De Jong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sebastian swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sebastian closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sebastian lands in his opponent's guard.
De Jong has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sebastian has passed into side control.
A lull in the action here.
De Jong wants to get back to his feet.

Sebastian decides to stand back up. Sebastian steps back and let's De Jong get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sebastian tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sebastian shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. De Jong manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
De Jong wants to stand up but Sebastian is controlling him.
Sebastian with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sebastian really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sebastian is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sebastian's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
De Jong wants to get back to his feet but Sebastian is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
De Jong manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
De Jong looking to control but Sebastian is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alistair De Jong wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Sebastian counters by clinching up.
De Jong tries a knee to the head but Sebastian blocks it.

Sebastian pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sebastian is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

De Jong decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Sebastian holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

De Jong jumps guard and drags Sebastian to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Sebastian is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

De Jong throws a lazy head kick

and Sebastian counters with a shoot takedown. De Jong fights it but they end up in guard.
Sebastian thows a big elbow that misses.
Sebastian wants to control from the top but De Jong keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sebastian looking to sit in guard and control but De Jong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
De Jong trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sebastian's guard.
De Jong is breathing heavily.

De Jong pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sebastian is keeping the position for now.
Sebastian tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sebastian is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. De Jong is aware though and is defending well.

De Jong wants to stand and escape but instead Sebastian has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Alistair De Jong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sebastian darts in and clinches De Jong up against the cage.

Sebastian breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

De Jong tries to pull guard but Sebastian holds him up against the cage and eventually De Jong drops back down to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A chopping leg kick lands by Sebastian.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sebastian shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says De Jong as he avoids it easily.

and Sebastian counters by moving into the clinch.

De Jong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Sebastian counters with a nice double leg into side control. De Jong won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

San Sebastian dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Sebastian has De Jong up against the cage in a clinch.
Sebastian tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. De Jong just stands there and leans against the cage.

De Jong is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

De Jong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sebastian doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sebastian manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sebastian is really struggling to control De Jong but he's trying to hold on to the position.
De Jong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sebastian is controlling him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
De Jong is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref stands the fighters back up because San Sebastian just wasn't active enough.

Sebastian feints and as De Jong raises his hands in defense, Sebastian changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

De Jong pushes Sebastian off and gets back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Sebastian holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Sebastian tries to stall but De Jong uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
De Jong just leaning against Sebastian, taking a breather.
De Jong lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Sebastian has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. De Jong avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

De Jong gets to his feet. Sebastian looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
De Jong looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sebastian is fending him off so far but De Jong persists. Nope, Sebastian circles away and we're back to standing.
De Jong closes the distance but Sebastian moves to the side

and Sebastian counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
San Sebastian overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
De Jong is looking to escape.
De Jong regains full guard. Nicely done.
Alistair De Jong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
San Sebastian is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sebastian will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
De Jong keeping moving, preventing Sebastian from controlling successfully.

San Sebastian showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sebastian has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
