Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chen Chong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mario Almeida!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Chong does no damage.
Chong avoids the body shot from Almeida.
Chong dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Almeida misses with a double jab
and Chong counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mario Almeida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Almeida swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Almeida takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chong rushes Almeida and presses him up against the cage.
Almeida fails to pull guard.
Almeida fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Almeida tries to pull guard but Chong holds him up against the cage and eventually Almeida drops back down to his feet.
Chen Chong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Almeida.
Almeida tries to pull guard but Chong won't allow it.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Chong creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Chong digs a right hand underneath Almeida's ribcage. Almeida let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Almeida drops down looking for an ankle pick but Chong pulls his leg out and moves away.
The crowd cheers as Chong lands an impressive looking overhand right. Almeida doesn't seem phased though.
Almeida looks gassed!
Chong rushes Almeida and presses him up against the cage.
Chong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jab, jab by Chong - just one landing.
Almeida is rocked!
Almeida misses with a shot to the body
and Chong moves into the clinch.
Chong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Chong slips under a jab.
Almeida loses concentration momentarily and Chong pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Almeida crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Chong finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Chen Chong!
