PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladislav Draxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Williams might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Purity by Slipknot. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vladislav Draxx!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Draxx clinches up with Williams and pushes him back against the cage.
Draxx is pressed up against the cage. Williams has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Draxx down to the mat. Draxx avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Williams circles away from the clinch attempt.

Williams feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Williams is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Draxx is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Draxx wants to control but Williams is keeping him busy.

Draxx seems to be working for a kimura but Williams defends the submission attempt.

Draxx is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Williams tries to get to full guard but Draxx has control of the leg.
Williams is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Draxx's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Draxx's back!

Draxx defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williams is on top in guard.
Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Draxx is retaining full guard.

Williams postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Draxx is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Williams, into his guard.

Williams isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Draxx stacks Williams on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Draxx!
Williams is looking to regain half guard here but Draxx keeps moving and retains side control.

Draxx is putting a hurting on Williams here, landing some big shots from side control.
Williams is trying to get back to half guard.
Williams gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Draxx is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Williams doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Draxx.

Williams is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Draxx pulls his head out easily.

Draxx wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Williams moves into full guard.
Draxx with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Williams has momentary wrist control but Draxx slips an elbow through the middle.
Draxx passes into half guard.
Williams makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Williams.

Williams looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Williams wants to improve his position but instead Draxx has moved into half guard.
Draxx prevents Williams from standing back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Williams will probably get the nod.
That's time! Williams's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Williams fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Draxx sprawls well initially but Williams persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Draxx is rocked!

Williams is working for a kimura but Draxx is defending it quite comfortably.
Draxx is still in real trouble! Can Williams finish him?

Williams is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Draxx is just riding it out for now. Williams eventually gives up the hold.
Draxx seems to have recovered his senses.

Williams is working for a kimura but Draxx is defending it quite comfortably.

Williams is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Draxx is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sam Williams!
