Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Veloso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Li comes into the arena with Give My Bullet Back blaring out of the sound system. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Douglas Veloso!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Veloso throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Li tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Veloso is in Li's guard.

Veloso has gone for a leg lock! Li slips out almost immediately though and dives into Veloso's guard.
Veloso keeping full guard, as Li tries to pass.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Li drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Li jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Li avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Li pushes down on Veloso's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Li is looking for a kimura but Veloso is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Li to get the leverage.

Li feints and as Veloso raises his hands in defense, Li changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Veloso is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Li is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Veloso is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Li wants to lay and pray for a moment but Veloso keeps working.
Veloso is looking to reverse the position.

Li thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Li wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Veloso, who protects the arm well.

Veloso is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Li is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Li uses his free foot to push down on Veloso's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Veloso.
Veloso is trying desperately to improve position.

Li is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Veloso can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Li is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Veloso is just riding it out for now. Li eventually gives up the hold.
