Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Damascus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damascus comes to the cage accompanied by seek n strike - soulfly. Alex Damascus has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Damascus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bas Rutten!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Rutten or perhaps it was just good defense by Damascus which made him look bad.
Rutten fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Damascus tries to clinch but Rutten moves out of range.

Rutten shoots in and bounces Damascus off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Damascus has his feet on Rutten's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Rutten closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Damascus quickly recovers to half guard.
Damascus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rutten throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rutten swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Damascus is now in Rutten's guard. A big mistake from Rutten there, giving up the dominant position!
Rutten is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Damascus gets to his feet. Rutten looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Damascus leaves Rutten with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Alex Damascus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bas Rutten.
Damascus throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Rutten shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rutten is trying to control the action in half guard but Damascus is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Damascus is trying to stand back up but Rutten is controlling him

Rutten is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rutten is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rutten wants to lay and pray for a moment but Damascus keeps working.

Damascus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rutten is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bas Rutten will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rutten shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Damascus sprawls well. Damascus wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rutten gets slowly back to his feet.
Rutten will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rutten maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Damascus could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Rutten has cracked it and Damascus is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Rutten!
