Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Timo Luikku!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jed Hill!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luikku has managed to clinch.
Hill breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Luikku shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Luikku was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hill is looking to improve his position but Luikku isn't that keen on the idea.
Luikku goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hill turns into him and now he's in Luikku's guard.
Hill won't allow Luikku to sweep him here.
Hill is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Luikku is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Luikku keeping moving, preventing Hill from controlling successfully.
Luikku controls Hill momentarily but Hill frees himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Luikku is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Luikku wants to control from the top but Hill keeps moving.
Hill is trying to control the position but Luikku postures up.
Hill is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Luikku is controlling him.
Luikku stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hill swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Luikku trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Luikku passes Hill's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hill is not content to let Luikku control the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Luikku tries to clinch but Hill is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Luikku has closed the distance and engaged Hill in a clinch.
Luikku just leaning against Hill, taking a breather.
Luikku trying to land knees to the body.
A nice left hand lands by Luikku.
A short right from Luikku.
Hill letting Luikku take a breather here.
Hill holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Hill's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Hill wants a takedown.
Luikku turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Luikku manages to end up in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Luikku is breathing heavily.
Luikku tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Luikku has hold of Hill's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hill tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Luikku cranks the arm and Hill screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hill, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Timo Luikku!
