Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Monson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Thompson's choice of entrance music: Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider . Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Thompson misses.

Monson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Thompson sprawls well initially but Monson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thompson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Thompson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thompson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Monson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Thompson looks a forlorn figure.

The cut above DJ Thompson's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Monson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Thompson because Monson loaded up on that one.

Monson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thompson swivels and escapes.

Monson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Monson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Monson pushes Thompson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Jeff Monson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
