PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luis Caldas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hendo Calrission (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calrission has chosen Polyamourus as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Luis Caldas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hendo Calrission!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calrission throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Caldas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Calrission sprawls well initially but Caldas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Caldas is looking for a kimura but Calrission is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Caldas to get the leverage.
Calrission trying to control here.
Calrission gets back to full guard.

Calrission escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caldas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Calrission keeping moving, preventing Caldas from controlling successfully.
Caldas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Calrission swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Caldas wants to control from the top but Calrission keeps moving.
Calrission looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Calrission is looking for a triangle but Caldas pushes his legs off easily.

Caldas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Caldas trying to control but Calrission is working from the bottom.
Caldas stands and throws Calrission's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Caldas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Caldas swings around for an armbar but Calrission sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Caldas's guard.
Caldas is breathing heavily.

Caldas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Calrission can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Caldas keeping full guard, as Calrission tries to pass.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Calrission drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Caldas dives on top into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calrission throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Caldas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Calrission looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Calrission looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Calrission!

Calrission wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Caldas, who protects the arm well.
Caldas tries to bench press Calrission off him but Calrission keeps the position.

Calrission looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Caldas is trying to get back to half guard.
Calrission advances to mount.
Caldas is working to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Caldas tries to hold on but Calrission pushes him away.
Caldas can't escape the position.

Calrission wants to finish this one by submission but Caldas is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Calrission.

Calrission with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Caldas is trying to escape the mount.
Calrission can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Caldas is looking to escape.
Calrission is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Caldas is looking to get to half guard.
Caldas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Caldas is trying to escape the mount.

Calrission working for a submission but Caldas is keeping him at bay.
Calrission looking to ground and pound but Caldas is blocking nicely.

Calrission is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Caldas is surviving well by controlling Calrission's body position as best he can.
Caldas really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Calrission is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Caldas shoots in looking for a takedown. Calrission tries to sprawl out of it but Caldas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Calrission manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Caldas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hendo Calrission dominated that round.
That's time! Caldas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Calrission keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice takedown defense from Calrission. No joy for Caldas on that attempt.
Hendo Calrission seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Caldas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luis Caldas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Calrission or perhaps it was just good defense by Caldas which made him look bad.
Calrission tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Caldas swivels and escapes.

Caldas feints and as Calrission raises his hands in defense, Caldas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Calrission escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caldas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Calrission is on top in guard.
Calrission passes Caldas's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Calrission wants to pass to mount but Caldas is defending the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Caldas is defending against the submission attempts here by Calrission.
Caldas manages to get to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Calrission is pushing down on Caldas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Caldas is fighting to maintain full guard but Calrission has managed to sneak the leg through.
Calrission works his foot free and advances to mount.

Calrission has hold of Caldas's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Caldas manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Calrission is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Caldas has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Caldas tries to reverse the position but Calrission maintains control.
Caldas wants to control but Calrission is having none of it.
Caldas working to try and regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Caldas is working hard here to advance position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Calrission looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Caldas is working to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Calrission has control of Caldas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Caldas regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Calrission wants to control the pace but Caldas is squirming around nicely.

Calrission looking to isolate an arm here. Caldas doesn't see it coming and as Calrission extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Calrission!
