Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Samuel Roman!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman works over Emelianenko 's head and body with a nice combination.
Roman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Emelianenko shoots in but Roman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Roman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Emelianenko circles away quickly and effectively.

Roman gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Emelianenko pulls guard successfully.
Roman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Roman throws and elbow that misses. Emelianenko uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Roman's guard. Nice move by Emelianenko !
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Roman keeps moving.
Roman is striking from the bottom but Emelianenko uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Roman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Emelianenko is looking to take a break and control but Roman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Emelianenko wants to free his trapped foot but Roman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Roman is not content to let Emelianenko control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roman tries to roll over but Emelianenko keeps him under control.
Roman flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Roman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Roman trying to hold on to Emelianenko 's head to control him but Emelianenko postures up.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roman defends it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Emelianenko is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roman is just riding it out for now. Emelianenko eventually gives up the hold.
Emelianenko wants to pass to mount but Roman is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Samuel Roman will probably get the nod.

Roman misses with a two punch combination.
Roman loads up on a big right hand but Emelianenko slips the punch.
Emelianenko dodges the punch combination from Roman.
Roman throws a series of punches but Emelianenko moves out of range.
Roman misses with a series of wild punches.
Roman throws a looping overhand right but Emelianenko ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roman misses with a few strikes there.
Fedor Emelianenko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Roman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Emelianenko .
Emelianenko slips a jab from Roman.
Roman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Nice takedown defense from Roman. No joy for Emelianenko on that attempt.
Roman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Emelianenko .
Roman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Roman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Emelianenko moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Roman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Roman throws the left hand but Emelianenko avoids the punch easily.
Emelianenko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Emelianenko slips a jab and a cross from Roman.
Roman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A right-left combo lands from Roman.
Emelianenko fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Emelianenko . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roman misses with a few strikes there.
Roman throws a right and a left that both miss.

Emelianenko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Roman to the mat! Roman manages to get full guard.
Roman controls Emelianenko momentarily but Emelianenko frees himself.
Emelianenko advances to half guard.
Emelianenko wants to take a breather but Roman is having none of it.

Roman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Emelianenko decides to stand and escape the position.
Roman is looking to clinch.
Roman gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Emelianenko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Emelianenko controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Roman striking from his own guard.

Roman keeping full guard, as Emelianenko tries to pass.
Emelianenko passes Roman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Emelianenko trying to control the action but Roman is working from the bottom.

Emelianenko wants to work for an arm triangle but Roman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Emelianenko dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Roman closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Roman closes the distance but Emelianenko moves to the side

and Emelianenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Roman is trying to stand up here but Emelianenko is controlling him well.
Emelianenko looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Emelianenko content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Emelianenko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth.
Well, if Emelianenko is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Fedor Emelianenko has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Emelianenko dives in and grabs Roman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Roman pushes down on Emelianenko 's head and hops out.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Roman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Roman closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Roman swinging wildly here.
A right-left combo lands from Roman.
Emelianenko has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Roman throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Emelianenko counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Roman's guard now.
Emelianenko postures up.
Emelianenko pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roman is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roman defends it well.
Emelianenko passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Emelianenko takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roman is just holding on here. Emelianenko manages to take his back.
Roman tries to roll but Emelianenko sticks to his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fedor Emelianenko showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Emelianenko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
