PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Silvester Szymanski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Nott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aaron Nott told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Silvester Szymanski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Nott!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szymanski wants to clinch up but Nott keeps it at a distance.
Nott keeps the fight on the outside.
Nott looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

and Szymanski counters with a takedown into side control.
Nott pushes Szymanski away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Szymanski gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Szymanski thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Nott wants to get back to his feet but Szymanski drags him back down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Szymanski is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nott will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Szymanski prevents Nott from escaping the position.
Nott is looking to regain half guard here but Szymanski keeps moving and retains side control.
Nott is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Szymanski is controlling him well.

Szymanski has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Szymanski has closed the distance and engaged Nott in a clinch.
Nott using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Szymanski has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Szymanski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nott doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Nott really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Szymanski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Szymanski drops back looking for a leg! Nott is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nott manages to kick Szymanski off! Szymanski jumps back into Nott's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Silvester Szymanski just wasn't active enough.

Nott moves out of range as Szymanski throws a body kick.
Szymanski slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Szymanski tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Szymanski shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Szymanski decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Szymanski displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nott throws out the jab.

Nott is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Szymanski is defending well for now.

Szymanski is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nott can do to turn this around?

Szymanski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Szymanski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Szymanski has hold of Nott's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nott manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Szymanski is landing with some decent strikes but Nott is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Szymanski throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nott tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Szymanski is in Nott's guard.

Well Szymanski has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
