PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ty Ruud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Siah Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ruud might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Peter Gabriel: Sledgehammer. Battle comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Defintion Of A Mohawk kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Siah Battle!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruud is looking to land body kicks.
Battle lands a head kick!
Ruud scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Ruud looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Battle is fending him off so far but Ruud persists. Nope, Battle circles away and we're back to standing.
Battle walks into a left hand.
Nice sprawl there from Battle as Ruud shoots in.
Ruud wants to land a leg kick but Battle is out of range.
Ruud throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Battle scores with a head kick.
Ruud blocks the body kick.
Battle shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruud sprawls well. He's pushed Battle's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Battle.

Battle shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ruud napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Battle looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ruud tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Battle presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ruud tries to control Battle's body but Battle pushes him off. Ruud squirms to his side and now Battle has his back!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Battle is looking to control Ruud but Ruud is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Ruud tries to escape the position.
Battle is trying to stick to Ruud's back but Ruud is turning into Battle. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Battle's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ruud.
Ruud forces his way into half guard.

Battle is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ruud pulls his head out easily.
Ruud is taking a breather. Battle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ruud lands a nice short elbow.
Ruud stalling.
Ruud looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Battle wants to get back to his feet.
Battle looks gassed!
Still in half guard, Ruud seems content to control.
Ruud passes to side control.
Battle is being controlled here.

Ruud thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Battle is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ruud happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Battle wants to get back to his feet but Ruud drags him back down.

Ruud is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Battle is trying to escape and Ruud transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Battle is forced to tap! Nice work there by Ruud! Very nice indeed!
