PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paul Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quick Ness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ness's choice of entrance music: The Flashing Blade. Quick Ness will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Quick Ness!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ness misses with a series of wild punches.

Lee gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee has picked Ness up - he's going for a ride! Lee dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Lee is looking for a kimura but Ness is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lee to get the leverage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Lee has gone for a leg lock! Ness slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lee's guard.

Ness looks to score with a jab to the body but Lee is just out of range.
Lee moves in looking to clinch but Ness pushes him off.

Lee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Lee is looking to stall here but Ness recovers full guard.
Lee passes Ness's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lee is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lee wants to control from the top but Ness keeps moving.

Lee throws a strike but Ness rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lee seems keen to control Ness's posture.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ness rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lee moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Lee bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lee creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ness sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Lee sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ness's guard.
Lee not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Lee is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ness is just riding it out for now. Lee eventually gives up the hold.
Lee uses his free foot to push down on Ness's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ness.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
