PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nick Skerlik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Skerlik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michael Jordan!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jordan closes the distance and clinches up with Skerlik, looking for a takedown. Jordan pushes Skerlik against the cage but Skerlik circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Skerlik scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jordan doesn't seem bothered though.
Skerlik lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Skerlik displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Skerlik displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jordan.
Jordan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Skerlik sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jordan somewhat.
Nick Skerlik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Jordan.
Skerlik lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Jordan backs up against the cage.
Nice sprawl there from Skerlik as Jordan shoots in.
Skerlik throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Nick Skerlik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Skerlik scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Skerlik darts in and clinches Jordan up against the cage.

Skerlik breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Skerlik darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Skerlik seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jordan for as long as he can get away with.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Skerlik slips a nice elbow through Jordan's hands, connecting with Jordan's forehead.

Skerlik postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Jordan to stand up.
Jordan takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Skerlik is working the combinations to good effect here.

and Skerlik makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Skerlik drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skerlik stays in close to Jordan's body and controls the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Nick Skerlik just wasn't active enough.

Jordan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Skerlik quickly recovers to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jordan thows a huge punch but Skerlik dodges it nicely.

Skerlik preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Jordan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Skerlik is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jordan, into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jordan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Skerlik controls the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Skerlik dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Skerlik connects with the punch.
Skerlik lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Jordan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Skerlik counters with a left and a right that stings Jordan.
Jordan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Skerlik lands a head kick. Jordan smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Skerlik stalks Jordan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jordan's face. Jordan staggers backwards, shaken.
Skerlik throws a nice inside leg kick.

Skerlik closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jordan is looking for a sweep.
Jordan takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Jordan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jordan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
You can see the frustration on Jordan's face as Skerlik controls the position.
Jordan is breathing heavily.
Jordan is looking to regain half guard here but Skerlik keeps moving and retains side control.

Skerlik landing strikes.
Skerlik moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Jordan tries to improve position but can't.
Skerlik in side control, just content to control the action for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Skerlik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We're going to have a standup here because Nick Skerlik wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jordan is looking to clinch but Skerlik is avoiding it.
Skerlik throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Skerlik escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nick Skerlik overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Skerlik remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Nick Skerlik is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
I really don't envy Jordan right now.
Skerlik has good solid back control here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Skerlik.
Skerlik throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Skerlik looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jordan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Skerlik pulls his head out easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nick Skerlik showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Skerlik has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
