PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Kishigawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jethro Pingshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pingshaw is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Heart of a Champion. Jethro Pingshaw told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrew Kishigawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jethro Pingshaw!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pingshaw fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nice body punch from Pingshaw.
Kishigawa throws a lazy right hand but Pingshaw sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Pingshaw.
Kishigawa avoids the head kick by Pingshaw.
Pingshaw cracks a nice hook into Kishigawa's ribs.
Kishigawa fails in his attempt to clinch.
A head kick from Pingshaw lands but Kishigawa takes it in his stride.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pingshaw lands a jab to Kishigawa's midsection.
Pingshaw lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pingshaw.
Jethro Pingshaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pingshaw drops his shoulder and cracks Kishigawa with a huge uppercut! Kishigawa goes down! Can Pingshaw finish him?


Kishigawa is rocked!
Pingshaw trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kishigawa's guard.
Oh Kishigawa is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pingshaw wants to stand and escape but instead Kishigawa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Kishigawa seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kishigawa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kishigawa passes Pingshaw's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Pingshaw tries to get to full guard but Kishigawa has control of the leg.
Kishigawa seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Pingshaw wants to control but Kishigawa is keeping busy.

Kishigawa wants to free his trapped foot but Pingshaw is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kishigawa content to control rather than advance.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pingshaw thuds his right hand into Kishigawa's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Pingshaw throws a right and a left that Kishigawa avoids nicely.
Kishigawa looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kishigawa tries to land a front kick but Pingshaw steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Pingshaw fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pingshaw misses with a two punch combination.
Pingshaw checks a leg kick.
Pingshaw scores with a head kick.
Pingshaw is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pingshaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pingshaw looks gassed!

Kishigawa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pingshaw, pushing him back against the cage.
Pingshaw is trying to force a seperation but Kishigawa has the dominant position.
Pingshaw is looking to break free of the clinch but Kishigawa has double underhooks.
Kishigawa prevents Pingshaw from breaking the clinch.
Kishigawa wants a takedown but no success here.
Kishigawa prevents Pingshaw from breaking the clinch.
Pingshaw is trying to force a seperation but Kishigawa has the dominant position.
Pingshaw has had enough of the clinch but Kishigawa keeps him there for the moment.
Pingshaw tries to circle away but Kishigawa has him pinned against the cage.
Pingshaw stops a takedown attempt from Kishigawa.
Kishigawa has Pingshaw pressed against the cage, preventing Pingshaw from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kishigawa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pingshaw fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Kishigawa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A left and a right from Pingshaw both land. Nice combination.
Pingshaw connects with a single shot there.
Pingshaw throws a nice outside leg kick.
Kishigawa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Pingshaw's sensitive parts.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kishigawa, right into the meat.
Pingshaw throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Pingshaw lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kishigawa circles away quickly and effectively.
Pingshaw tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kishigawa misses with a body shot.

Kishigawa moves into the clinch.

Kishigawa gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Pingshaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kishigawa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kishigawa frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Pingshaw squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kishigawa lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kishigawa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Kishigawa has isolated one of Pingshaw's arms. Pingshaw looking to fight him off but Kishigawa twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrew Kishigawa!
