Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jericho Datu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Datu comes to the cage accompanied by Ridin Dirty. Penn has chosen Loser as his entrance music. Paul Penn has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jericho Datu's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Penn displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

No luck for Datu with that takedown attempt.
Penn misses with a low kick.
Penn misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Datu.
Datu just misses with a punch to the body.
Penn throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Datu stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Paul Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Jericho Datu has been cut.

Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Datu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penn as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jericho Datu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Datu.
Datu takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Penn looks for the body kick but Datu saw that one coming.

Datu closes the distance and clinches.
Penn is pressed up against the cage. Datu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Penn down to the mat. Penn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Penn fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Datu looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and Datu counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Penn!
Penn prevents any damage by holding on tight.

Datu tries to control but Penn wriggling away.
Penn is looking to get to half guard.
Penn is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Datu throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Datu prevents Penn from getting the reversal.
Penn tries to hold on but Datu postures up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
