PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Smart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Valesquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valesquez has chosen "Ratamahatta" by Sepultura as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Fabricio Valesquez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maxwell Smart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fabricio Valesquez!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valesquez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Smart looks to score with a jab to the body but Valesquez is just out of range.
Valesquez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Smart is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Smart scores with a takedown into Valesquez's guard.
Smart trying to control the position from guard on top but Valesquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smart slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Smart lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Smart looking to pass the guard.

Smart avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Valesquez looking for a guillotine here but Smart defends easily.
Valesquez looks gassed!

Smart postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Valesquez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Smart decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Valesquez, up you get!
Smart ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Smart throws a hook but Valesquez avoids it easily.
Smart throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Valesquez.
Smart ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Valesquez moves away.
Valesquez staying out of range there.
Valesquez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Smart, as that shot connected.

Smart has managed to clinch.

Smart successfully pulls guard.
Valesquez scoring with some ground and pound.
Valesquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smart is keeping the position for now.
Smart is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Valesquez looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smart is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Smart lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Smart looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Valesquez is refusing to be controlled, as Smart sits in half guard.
Valesquez is looking to improve his position.
Smart slips a nice elbow through Valesquez's hands, connecting with Valesquez's forehead.
Smart passes to full mount!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Smart trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smart fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smart lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Smart in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Smart with shots to the head and body - Valesquez looks very uncomfortable down there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smart dominating with strikes here.
Smart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Valesquez is in all sorts of trouble here.
Smart controlling from mount.
Valesquez working to try and regain half guard.
Smart looking to control but Valesquez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Smart lands with some strikes.
Smart trying to control but Valesquez is having none of it.
Smart looking to finish Valesquez with some ground and pound. This is bad for Valesquez!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Smart dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Valesquez moves away from the strike by Smart.
Smart throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Smart misses with the combination.
Smart misses with a hook. Valesquez ducked under it nicely.
Smart tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Valesquez was well out of range. Poor timing from Smart.

and Smart counters with a takedown into side control.
Valesquez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Smart is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Valesquez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Valesquez tries to buck Smart off but Smart is having none of it.
Valesquez is breathing heavily.
Valesquez is letting Smart control him for a moment.
Valesquez gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smart is looking to take a break and control but Valesquez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Valesquez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Smart lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Smart is keen to just control but Valesquez is a slippery customer.
Valesquez gets back to full guard.
Smart wants to pass the guard but Valesquez is keeping the position.
Smart passes into half guard.
Smart working the head and body with strikes.

Valesquez is looking for a sweep. Smart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Smart is trying for a kimura here. Valesquez looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Smart wins by kimura!
