Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ragnar Irish !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, JD Kay!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kay moves into the clinch successfully.

Kay turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Irish can't do much from the bottom here.
Irish is trying to work for a sweep but Kay has mounted him!
Kay takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Irish tries to reverse the position but Kay maintains control.
Kay controlling the position easily from mount.
Irish is desperately trying to improve his position but Kay has a good base and remains in mount.
Irish gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kay content to control rather than advance.
Kay wants to pass the guard but Irish is defending well.
Irish wants to control but Kay is keeping busy.
Irish tries to get to full guard but Kay has control of the leg.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Kay stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Irish to get to his feet.
Ragnar Irish seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Irish changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kay tries to avoid it but Irish manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kay to the ground. Kay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Irish shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kay sprawls well. Kay wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Irish gets slowly back to his feet.
Kay tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Irish .

Kay throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Irish .
Kay throws a body punch but Irish moves out of range.
Kay throws a right and a left that Irish avoids nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Kay. No joy for Irish on that attempt.

Kay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Irish gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Irish has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kay is proving hard to escape from.
Kay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Irish . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Irish wants to control but Kay is keeping him busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Irish decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kay to his feet.
Irish fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kay defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Irish .

Kay's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Irish looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kay throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Irish 's head.
Irish shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kay pinned against the cage. Kay gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kay makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kay slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Kay lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Kay is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Irish fails with the takedown

and Kay counters with a nice double leg into side control. Irish won't be happy with that.

Kay landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Irish sneaks out the side door and pushes Kay away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

and Kay counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Kay shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Irish tries to lock up and control but Kay gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Irish keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kay wants to control but Irish has made it back to half guard. Nice work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Irish shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kay moves into the clinch.
Irish letting Kay take a breather here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JD Kay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Irish doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kay counters by clinching up.
Kay presses Irish against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Kay connects with a knee to the head.
Kay lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Kay stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Irish has Kay pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kay manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kay takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Kay.

Kay tightens his grip and picks Irish up, before dumping him to the ground. Irish manages to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kay stops Irish from standing up.
Kay trying to control but Irish is working from the bottom.
Irish is trying to control the position but Kay postures up.
Ragnar Irish has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kay trying to move into half guard but instead Irish has managed to sweep!

Irish stands up from Kay's guard - Irish perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kay closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A thudding body kick lands there by Kay!
Irish shoots and misses
and Kay counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Irish is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Irish will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ragnar Irish is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Kay counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Irish !

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kay cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Irish is trying desperately to improve position.

Kay controlling the pace for now.
Kay throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Irish because Kay loaded up on that one.
JD Kay has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kay won't let Irish get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Kay looking to control and managing it successfully.
Irish throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

JD Kay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kay has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
