Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Gibson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jayson Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rodriguez is fending him off so far but Gibson persists. Nope, Rodriguez circles away and we're back to standing.
Rodriguez misses with a wild combination.
Rodriguez moves into range and connects with a jab.
No luck for Gibson with that takedown attempt.
Rodriguez dips to his left and cracks Gibson with an uppercut!
Rodriguez throws a right hand that Gibson ducks under and follows up with a left that Gibson also avoids with ease.
Gibson shoots for a takedown but Rodriguez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Gibson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rodriguez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Gibson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Rodriguez swings for the body but Gibson moves out of range.
Gibson shoots for a double leg takedown but Rodriguez sprawls well. He's pushed Gibson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rodriguez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gibson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rodriguez lands a left and a right that send Gibson crashing to the mat, dazed. Rodriguez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Gibson is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gibson shoots in for a takedown but Rodriguez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Oh Gibson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gibson is breathing heavily.
Gibson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rodriguez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gibson somewhat.
Gibson seems to have got his legs back now.
Gibson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Rodriguez drops Gibson with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Gibson looks back up at him and smiles so Rodriguez waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Rodriguez measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Gibson! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Jayson Rodriguez!
