PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Runner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Bush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Runner kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Kids - MGMT. David Bush is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Runner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Bush!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Bush as Runner shoots in.
Bush slaps away a takedown attempt from Runner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Some wild striking there from Runner.
Bush displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Runner.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Runner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Runner feints and as Bush raises his hands in defense, Runner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Runner is pushing down on Bush's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bush is fighting to maintain full guard but Runner has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bush actively working from the bottom here.

Bush has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Runner escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Runner!
Runner trying to control the position but Bush is working away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bush can't do much from the bottom here.
Bush tries to buck Runner off but Runner is having none of it.
Bush regains half guard there - taking advantage of Runner's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Runner tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Runner wants to take a breather but Bush is having none of it.
Bush has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Runner is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bush is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Runner pulls his head out easily.
Bush is looking to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bush looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Runner dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bush fails with the takedown

and Runner counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bush won't be happy with that.
Bush regains half guard there - taking advantage of Runner's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Runner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bush defends it well.

Runner seems to be working for a kimura but Bush defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bush keeping control of the position.
Bush trying to get back to full guard but Runner takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bush is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bush tries to control the position but Runner now has his back.
Bush breaks Runner's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bush controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bush trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bush wants to control from the top but Runner keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

David Bush has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Bush checks a leg kick.
Runner rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bush moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bush misses with a takedown

and Runner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bush's guard.

Runner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bush manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Runner has Bush in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Runner dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Runner swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Runner shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Bush counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bush is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bush is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Bush trying to control but Runner is working from the bottom.
Bush's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bush wants to control from the top but Runner keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Bush.
Bush takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Runner fails with the takedown

and Bush counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Runner!
Bush trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Bush moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Runner has worked his arm free - good work by Runner!

Bush tries for a kimura but Runner is defending well.

Bush tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bush trying to control the position but Runner is working away.

Bush swings around for an armbar but Runner sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bush's guard.
Runner tries to free his leg and advance position but Bush is retaining full guard.

Bush has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Runner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Bush is looking for a triangle but Runner pushes his legs off easily.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bush takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Runner gets to his feet. Bush looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
David Bush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Runner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Runner fails with the takedown

and Bush counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Runner!

And that's the end of the fight!
David Bush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Runner has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
