Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields throws a front kick aimed at Bateman's knee but Bateman avoids it well.
Shields keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shields misses with a takedown

and Bateman counters with a shoot takedown. Shields fights it but they end up in guard.

Bateman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shields is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shields has escaped and now he's on top!
Bateman wants to stand up but Shields is controlling him.
Bateman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bateman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bateman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Derrick Bateman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Bateman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bateman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shields has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bateman pushes Shields off looking to stand but Shields dives back in and keeps control.

A close round but Derrick Bateman will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Shields throws a series of punches but Bateman avoids them all with ease.
Shields tries to clinch there but Bateman circles away.

Shields is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Shields won't allow Bateman to get back to his feet.
Shields lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Shields has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Shields postures up in Bateman's guard and throws a big left but Bateman blocks it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shields trying to mount his opponent but Bateman defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shields is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bateman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shields.
Shields prevents Bateman from improving his position.

Shields stands up from half guard.
Shields goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Bateman controls Shields momentarily but Shields frees himself.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Bateman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shields slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
