PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jake Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen Big in Japan - Guano Apes Cover as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Lee!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Foster. Foster gets slowly back to his feet.

Foster shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lee holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Lee moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Foster with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lee working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Foster.
Lee avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lee keeping moving, preventing Foster from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Foster throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lee works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Foster stands and throws Lee's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Foster wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lee keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lee can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ground and pound from Foster seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Foster thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Foster goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lee rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Foster's guard! Nice work there by Lee!
Lee loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Foster is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Foster knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lee on the ground.

Lee postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Foster is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lee, into his guard.
Lee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Foster trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foster has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Foster postures up in Lee's guard and throws a big left but Lee blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lee is pulling down on Foster's head. It's preventing any offense from Foster, at least for the moment.
Foster trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jake Foster has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Foster stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Foster wants it to stay on the feet.
Foster tries to clinch up.
Foster gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Lee counters with a single leg into guard. Foster didn't expect that.
Foster throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Foster looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Lee is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Foster is looking for a triangle but Lee pushes his legs off easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Steven Lee will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lee is looking to clinch but Foster is avoiding it.
Foster thuds a left hand into Lee's body.
Lee tries for a takedown but Foster circles away easily
and Foster counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Lee tries to clinch but Foster moves out of range.
Lee throws a body punch but Foster moves out of range.

Lee closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Lee working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Foster manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lee's best efforts.
Foster wants to control but Lee is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lee passes to side control.
Lee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Foster keeps working.

Lee looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Lee moves into full mount!
Foster is squirming around, avoiding Lee's attempts to control the action.

Lee jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Foster manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Foster tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lee wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Foster struggling a bit here.
Lee tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Foster is looking for a sweep.
The ground and pound from Lee seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Lee throws an elbow but Foster slips to the side and avoids it well.
Foster is trying to improve his position.

Lee wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Foster, who protects the arm well.
Foster wants to control but Lee postures up.
Foster wants to get back to his feet but Lee drags him back down.
Foster is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lee throws an elbow but Foster slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Foster is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Foster manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lee connects with a nice short shot to Foster's temple.

Lee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Foster moves into full guard.
Foster bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lee's guard.
Lee is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee wants to stand up but Foster is controlling him.
Foster tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.
Foster works over Lee with some ground and pound from guard.
Foster postures up.
Lee working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Foster.
Foster tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.
Lee controlling the position.
Lee keeping moving, preventing Foster from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Lee is looking to sinch up a triangle. Foster throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Lee's body to avoid the submission. Lee has instead reached around Foster's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Lee arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Steven Lee!
