The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alexander shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vaschuta napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Vaschuta is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Vaschuta takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Alexander wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vaschuta keeps working.
Alexander postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Vaschuta regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alexander is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Vaschuta throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Vaschuta wants to get back to full guard.

Alexander drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vaschuta manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Alexander has Vaschuta in his guard.

Vaschuta is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Vaschuta drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alexander manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vaschuta has Alexander in his guard.
Vaschuta is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alexander is controlling him.

Vaschuta is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alexander is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Vaschuta is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Alexander might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Vaschuta manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
