And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Denis Leary!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suarez wants to clinch.
Suarez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Suarez tries to clinch but Leary moves out of range.
Leary shoots in but no luck this time.
Suarez is looking to clinch.

Leary closes the distance and clinches.

Leary has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Suarez regains guard immediately.
Leary prevents Suarez from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leary stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Suarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Suarez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Suarez trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Suarez can't keep his opponent in guard - Leary advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Leary stops Suarez from getting back to his feet.

Leary is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Suarez has managed to free his arm - good work.
Suarez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Leary on the ground.
Leary wants to pass to mount but Suarez is defending the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Suarez pushes Leary off looking to stand but Leary dives back in and keeps control.
Leary throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Leary swats away the attempt to clinch by Suarez.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Leary tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Suarez swivels and escapes.
Leary lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Leary.

Suarez forces Leary back against the cage and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Leary dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Leary postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Leary is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Leary throws a strike but Suarez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Leary has a closed guard, preventing Suarez from standing up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Leary swings around for an armbar but Suarez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Leary's guard.

Denis Leary showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

No joy there for Suarez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Leary sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Suarez's guard.
Suarez is trying to stand back up but Leary is controlling him
Leary thows a huge punch but Suarez dodges it nicely.
Suarez tries to kick Leary off in order to stand up. Leary Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Leary stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Leary is looking to clinch but Suarez is avoiding it.
Suarez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Suarez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Leary is controlling the pace.

Leary looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Suarez tries to kick Leary off but Leary keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Leary decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Leary shoots in but no luck this time.
Leary takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Suarez is not content to let Leary control the position.
Rico Suarez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
