PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dee Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vinson Workman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pain comes into the arena with AC/DC - If you want Blood (You've got it) blaring out of the sound system. Workman has chosen Godsmack-Time Bomb as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dee Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vinson Workman!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Workman throws a wild body kick that Pain sees coming a mile off.
Pain swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Pain. That snapped Workman's head back.
Pain tests Workman's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Workman throws an overhand right that lands on Pain's shoulder, as Pain tries to avoid the shot.
Pain throws a leg kick that misses.
Workman stuffs the takedown attempt from Pain. Pain gets slowly back to his feet.
Vinson Workman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pain takes a jab right on the kisser.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pain shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Workman enables Pain to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Workman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Pain stopping the sweep attempt from Workman.

Pain loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Pain throws a strike but Workman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Pain is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pain working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Workman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Workman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Workman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Pain looking for a sweep. Not yet Pain, not yet.
Workman postures up.

Pain is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Workman defends well.
Pain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pain is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pain wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pain throws a right and a left that Workman avoids nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Workman throws a jab when Pain was well out of range.
Pain fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dee Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Workman misses with a hook.
Workman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Pain manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pain will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Workman throws a sloppy body shot
and Pain counters with a thumping low kick.
Pain wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Workman looks gassed!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A combination from Pain does no damage.
Pain throws a series of punches but Workman avoids them all with ease.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dee Pain dominated that round.

Vinson Workman seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Pain circles away from the clinch attempt.
An inside leg kick lands from Workman.
That kick from Workman tenderised Pain's leg. Pain is trying to keep his angry face on.
Pain ducks right into an uppercut from Workman.
Workman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pain paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice defenses there by Pain.
Pain takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Workman punishes Pain's body with a nice straight punch.

Workman misses with a double jab.
Workman lands a high kick!
Pain ducks right into an uppercut from Workman.
Pain throws a looping overhand right but Workman ducks down to avoid it.
Pain circles away from the clinch attempt
and Pain counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Workman connects with a good right hand that stumbles Pain. Pain circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Workman misses with a wild combination.
Workman cracks Pain with an open hand slap.

Workman throws a wild body kick that Pain sees coming a mile off.
Workman looks to land a combination. Pain sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Workman connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Pain takes a swing at Workman's ribcage but misses.
A jab lands there for Pain.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Workman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Vinson Workman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Workman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Workman misses with a body kick.
Pain throws a body punch but Workman moves out of range.
Pain throws a right and a left that both miss.
Workman cracks Pain with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Workman lands a leg kick that knocks Pain off balance momentarily.
Workman misses the shot to the body.
Workman turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Good work by Pain as he checks the leg kick.
Pain throws a looping overhand right but Workman ducks down to avoid it.
Pain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Workman but Workman pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Workman throws a jab when Pain was well out of range.
Workman misses with a shot to the body

and Pain counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pain.
Pain missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Pain throws a big right hand that misses.

Pain wants to pass the guard but Workman is keeping the position.
Pain postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Workman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pain throwing strikes but missing.

Workman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pain's guard.

Pain is looking for a triangle but Workman pushes his legs off easily.
Pain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pain is trying to keep Workman in close.
Pain keeping full guard, as Workman tries to pass.
Workman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Workman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pain is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pain is looking for a triangle but Workman pushes his legs off easily.
Pain tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pain is working hard here to advance position.

Pain has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Workman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pain working for submissions but it's allowed Workman to get to half guard.
Pain wants to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Vinson Workman.
I think Workman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
