Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dimas Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dimas Russo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Justin James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dimas Russo!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russo just misses with a punch to the body.
Russo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Russo shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Russo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Russo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

and James counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

James is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Russo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Russo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. James tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Russo is in James's guard.

James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dimas Russo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russo wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
James is looking for a sweep.
Russo gets to mount! James was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Russo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
James is squirming around, avoiding Russo's attempts to control the action.
James is trying to escape the mount.
Russo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Dimas Russo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Russo leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Russo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Russo drops down looking for an ankle pick but James pulls his leg out and moves away.
Russo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
James doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Russo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russo passes James's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Russo wants to free his trapped foot but James is holding on for dear life with his legs.

James is trying to maintain the position but Russo is very close to passing his half guard.
Russo takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
James is looking to improve his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Russo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Russo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Russo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but James is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Dimas Russo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Russo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
