Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Duscaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duscaw has chosen "I am the Walrus" by The Beatles as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Peter Cortez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Duscaw!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duscaw shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cortez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cortez tries to improve position but can't.
Duscaw misses with the ground and pound.
Cortez is looking to regain half guard here but Duscaw keeps moving and retains side control.
Duscaw scores with punches from side control.
Duscaw looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Cortez is avoiding damage well.
Cortez is not content to let Duscaw control the position.
Cortez prevents Duscaw from moving into mount.
Cortez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Cortez works his way to full guard. Good work.
Duscaw in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Duscaw looking to pass the guard.
Duscaw wants to control from the top but Cortez keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duscaw with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cortez keeping moving, preventing Duscaw from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Cortez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duscaw can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Duscaw slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cortez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cortez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Duscaw wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, if Duscaw is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Duscaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cortez's head.

Cortez looking for submissions off his back.
Cortez is refusing to be controlled, as Duscaw sits in half guard.
Duscaw has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Duscaw is looking for a kimura here.

Duscaw wants to control from the top but Cortez keeps moving.

Duscaw thows a big elbow that misses.
Cortez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cortez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Duscaw is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Duscaw looking for a guillotine here but Cortez defends easily.
Cortez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Duscaw is controlling Cortez's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Duscaw is defending against the submission attempts here by Cortez.

Duscaw is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cortez pulls his head out easily.
Cortez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A close round but Brandon Duscaw will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cortez misses with a looping left.
Cortez lands a nice shot that snaps Duscaw's head back.
Cortez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Duscaw was well out of range. Poor timing from Cortez.

Duscaw pushes Cortez up against the cage in a clinch.
Cortez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Duscaw is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cortez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Duscaw pulls his leg out and moves away.
Duscaw is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cortez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A big right from Cortez misses.
Duscaw drops his hands momentarily and Cortez takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Cortez throws a shot from downtown. Duscaw moves away and avoids it.
Duscaw throws a head kick that misses.
Horrible takedown by Duscaw or perhaps it was just good defense by Cortez which made him look bad.
Duscaw looks to throw the jab but Cortez is out of range.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Duscaw takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Cortez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Duscaw.
Duscaw slips a straight right by Cortez.
Cortez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Duscaw.
Duscaw lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Cortez thows a left - swing and a miss!
Duscaw slips a jab from Cortez.
Cortez pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Duscaw ducks under a wild hook from Cortez.
Cortez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Cortez stuffs the takedown attempt from Duscaw. Duscaw gets slowly back to his feet.

It looks like Brandon Duscaw has been cut.
Nice uppercut lands for Cortez. That snapped Duscaw's head back.
Peter Cortez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Duscaw lands with a right hand.
Duscaw shoots in looking for a takedown but Cortez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Duscaw's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cortez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Cortez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Duscaw circles away quickly and effectively.

Duscaw uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cortez.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters circling - Duscaw throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cortez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Duscaw tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Duscaw tries to close the distance and clinch but Cortez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cortez lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cortez.
Duscaw shoots for a takedown but Cortez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Cortez throws an overhand right that lands on Duscaw's shoulder, as Duscaw tries to avoid the shot.

Cortez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Duscaw with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cortez to score with a decent uppercut.
Duscaw will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Peter Cortez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Duscaw.
Cortez throws a hook to the side of Duscaw's head but Duscaw sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Cortez throws out a loose jab but Duscaw uses good head movement to avoid it.

Duscaw darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cortez is trying to maintain the position but Duscaw is very close to passing his half guard.
Cortez is staying active underneath Duscaw, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Duscaw is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cortez!

Duscaw swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cortez is now in Duscaw's guard. A big mistake from Duscaw there, giving up the dominant position!

Cortez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cortez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cortez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cortez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duscaw is keeping the position for now.

Duscaw is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cortez is aware though and is defending well.

Cortez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Duscaw controls Cortez momentarily but Cortez frees himself.

Peter Cortez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cortez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
