PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Pink Floyd - Money. Williams has chosen No More Mr. Nice Guy as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randolph Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Williams!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Roberts and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams tries to keep at a distance but Duke has taken the fight into the clinch.
Duke's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Williams digs a right hand into Duke's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Duke's gas tank.
A left hand lands to the body for Williams.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Duke obliges.
Duke tries to pull guard but Williams won't allow it.
Williams tries a body shot but Duke blocks it.
Williams gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Duke.

Duke throws a head punch that misses.
Williams lands with a right to the head.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ray Williams was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Williams throws a leg kick but Duke checks it.
Williams thows a left - swing and a miss!
Williams misses the shot to the body.
Williams ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Duke moves away.
Duke drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Duke fakes the leg kick and cracks Williams in the body.
Williams throws a hook to the side of Duke's head but Duke sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Duke stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Williams.

Duke shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Williams napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Duke has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Williams throws the kick towards the body but Duke avoids it.
Duke moves out of range as Williams strikes.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Duke.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Randolph Duke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Williams darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Duke uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Williams.

Williams fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Duke checks it well.
Williams throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Williams looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Duke slips a straight right by Williams.

Williams connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A slapping leg kick lands for Williams.
Nice defenses there by Duke.
Ray Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Duke counters with a straight right hand.
Williams scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Duke doesn't seem bothered though.

Williams dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Duke is breathing heavily.
Duke avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Williams misses with a double jab.
Williams lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Duke throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Williams lands with a hook. Duke tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Williams throws a low kick but Duke avoids it.
Williams connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Duke momentarily.
That kick from Williams tenderised Duke's leg. Duke is trying to keep his angry face on.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Duke counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Williams has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Duke has passed into side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Williams thows a body shot but no joy.
Williams fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Duke has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Duke moves out of range as Williams throws a body kick.
Williams pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Duke looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Williams is fending him off so far but Duke persists. Nope, Williams circles away and we're back to standing.

and Duke counters with a single leg into guard. Williams didn't expect that.
Williams looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Williams trying to keep a closed guard but Duke is proving a slippery customer.

Williams kicks Duke off and gets to his feet.

Williams lands with a hook. Duke tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Williams throws a shot from downtown. Duke moves away and avoids it.

and Duke decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Williams's guard.
Williams is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Duke is staying active underneath Williams, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Williams wants to pass to mount but Duke is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Williams tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Duke.

Duke is looking to get back to full guard here but Williams has managed to pass to side control instead.
Williams tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams looking to control but Duke is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Duke tries to get back to half guard but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Williams tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Williams looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Randolph Duke will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Duke swings around for an armbar but Williams sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Duke's guard.

Williams stands up and waves to Duke to follow him.
Ray Williams is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Williams digs a good body shot into Duke's ribs.

and Duke counters with a nice body shot.

Duke avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Williams tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Duke was well out of range. Poor timing from Williams.

and Duke counters with a right hand to the body.

and Duke makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Duke misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Duke steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Williams.
Duke tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Williams manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Duke misses with an attempted mid kick.
Duke changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Duke manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Williams swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Duke.
Williams gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Duke counters with a shoot takedown. Williams fights it but they end up in guard.
Duke throws a strike but Williams rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Duke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Williams controls from within his opponent's guard.

Duke is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Williams defends well.

Williams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Duke pulls Williams in close to prevent any damage.
Duke is looking to stand back up but Williams counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Duke.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Randolph Duke.
I think Duke has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
