Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ranma Saotome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Goran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan Goran has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ranma Saotome's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Saotome scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Saotome is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Goran is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Goran regains half guard.

Saotome is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Goran manages to get to full guard.
Saotome is stalling in the full guard.

Saotome thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Goran looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Saotome passes into half guard.

Saotome is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Goran manages to get to full guard.

Goran working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Saotome doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Saotome manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Goran escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Saotome gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Saotome trying to control but Goran is working from the bottom.

Goran had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Saotome is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Goran Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Saotome's back instead.

Goran is trying to stick to Saotome's back but Saotome is turning into Goran. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Goran's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Saotome.
Saotome tries to free his leg and advance position but Goran is retaining full guard.

Saotome drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Saotome jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Goran looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Saotome puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saotome looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Saotome tries to pass the half guard into mount. Goran knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Saotome wants to finish this one by submission but Goran is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Saotome.
