The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Dean Styles and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Terell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ruutu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Terell cracks Ruutu with a big elbow.
Terell scoring with punches from side control.
Ruutu takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Ruutu managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Terell.

Ruutu throws a nice looking combination but Terell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The crowd cheers as Terell lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ruutu doesn't seem phased though.
Terell shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruutu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Terell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mason Terell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ruutu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Terell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Terell controls Ruutu momentarily but Ruutu frees himself.
Terell can't keep his opponent in guard - Ruutu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Terell looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Terell won't allow Ruutu to pass to mount.
Ruutu tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ruutu not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ruutu decides to return to a standing position.
Ruutu connects with the punch.
Ruutu looks to land a right hand but Terell moved out of range.

Ruutu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Terell swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jarkko Ruutu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Terell misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ruutu.
Ruutu throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Terell on the side of the head.

Terell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ruutu quickly recovers to half guard.
Terell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ruutu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Terell.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Mason Terell will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jarkko Ruutu's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Ruutu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Terell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ruutu wants to sweep here but Terell controlling him for the moment.

Terell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruutu has managed to escape the submission attempt.
A big strike lands for Terell! That's really hurt Ruutu and he's turned his back - Terell keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Terell jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
