PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Long Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Rentz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dong comes into the arena with Thompson Twins - If You Were Here blaring out of the sound system. Brandon Rentz is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Long Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Rentz!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rentz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rentz goes for an armbar but Dong turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Dong.
Dong tries to free his leg and advance position but Rentz is retaining full guard.
Dong wants to stand and escape but instead Rentz has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Rentz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rentz has Dong in his guard.

Dong stands up from Rentz's guard - Dong perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's one minute gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dong enables Rentz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rentz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rentz looking to sit in guard and control but Dong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rentz looking for a sweep. Not yet Rentz, not yet.
Dong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Dong throws a big right hand that misses.
Dong wants to control from the top but Rentz keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dong working some strikes from top position.
Dong in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Dong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Dong stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The fight stays on the outside here - Rentz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rentz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Dong is refusing to be controlled, as Rentz sits in half guard.
Rentz slows the pace down in half guard.
Dong has his hands clasped together around Rentz's back. He's all about the action.
Dong works his way to full guard. Good work.
Dong pulls Rentz in to control the position.

Dong with a poor takedown

and Rentz counters with a shoot takedown. Dong fights it but they end up in guard.
Rentz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rentz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dong dives on top into guard.
Dong really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dong trying to control but Rentz is working from the bottom.
Dong throwing strikes but missing.

Rentz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Dong has picked Rentz up and slammed him! Rentz can't keep hold of the triangle and Dong manages to pass to side control!
Dong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rentz keeps working.

Dong goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rentz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Dong but great work by Rentz.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dong is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rentz has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Rentz's face as Dong controls the position.
Dong tries to advance to mount but Rentz denies him.
Rentz avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Dong.

Dong decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rentz to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rentz with a lazy takedown attempt

and Dong counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rentz's guard now.

Rentz is looking for a triangle here but Dong uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rentz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Long Dong dominated that second round.
That's time! Dong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rentz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rentz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dong keeping moving, preventing Rentz from controlling successfully.
Rentz slips nicely into half guard.
Long Dong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rentz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dong knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dong avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rentz.

Rentz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dong has managed to free his arm - good work.
Rentz is trying to control. Dong wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dong wants to control but Rentz is keeping busy.
Dong is pressing down on Rentz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rentz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dong looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dong looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dong!
Rentz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dong wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rentz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dong wants to control but Rentz is keeping him busy.
Dong is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rentz avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Dong.
Rentz is looking to regain half guard here but Dong keeps moving and retains side control.
Dong looks up at the clock and then as Rentz takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dong smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dong wants to control for a moment but Rentz uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Dong seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rentz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rentz wants to improve his position but Dong is controlling well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dong wants to control but Rentz is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandon Rentz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rentz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
