PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Polk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zvonimir Stelian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stelian has chosen Poison (The Prodigy) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zvonimir Stelian!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stelian looks to throw the jab but Polk is out of range.
Stelian looks to land a combination but Polk avoids it well.
Good standup being displayed there by Polk as he connects with a hook.
Stelian walks into a jab.
The crowd cheers as Polk lands an impressive looking overhand right. Stelian doesn't seem phased though.

Stelian shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Polk napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Stelian wants to stand but Polk has his arm trapped.

Stelian has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Stelian tries to clinch but Polk moves out of range.
A slow jab from Stelian misses its intended target.
Stelian throws out a leg kick but Polk moves out of range and Stelian only half commits.
Stelian shoots in but no luck this time.
Stelian is looking to clinch but Polk is avoiding it.

Polk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Polk got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stelian has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Polk has managed to get both his arms back between Stelian's legs - danger averted.

Stelian has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Polk can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Stelian looks gassed!

Polk wants to control from the top but Stelian keeps moving.

Stelian is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Polk defends well.

Polk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Polk working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Stelian is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Polk is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Polk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stelian is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Polk has his hands clasped together but Stelian extends an breaks Polk's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Stelian.
