The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Layden looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Layden wants to clinch up but Alcano keeps it at a distance.
Layden throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alcano's waist but Alcano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Layden off to one side.

Alcano is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Alcano has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Layden is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Alcano.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alcano fakes the leg kick and cracks Layden in the body.

Alcano changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Layden looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Alcano working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Alcano is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Layden knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Alcano is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Layden can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Layden feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
