Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Secunda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jorge Cordes!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Secunda moves out of range as Cordes strikes.
Secunda moves into the clinch.
Secunda has picked Cordes up - he's going for a ride! Secunda dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Secunda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cordes keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Secunda looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Secunda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cordes sees it coming and defends easily.
Secunda not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Secunda frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cordes is looking to improve his position but Secunda isn't that keen on the idea.
Secunda throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Secunda is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Secunda feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Secunda passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Secunda tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Secunda is looking to take a break and control but Cordes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Secunda cracks Cordes with a big elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Secunda passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Cordes!
Secunda pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Secunda tries to control but Cordes wriggling away.
Secunda is looking to work his way around to Cordes's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Cordes is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Secunda wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Secunda stands up from mount. Strange move.

Secunda lands with a slapping head kick.
Cordes gets tackled into the cage by Secunda. Secunda maintains the clinch.
Secunda lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
It looks like Jorge Cordes has been cut.
Cordes looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Cordes is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Secunda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cordes throws a lazy right hand but Secunda sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Secunda.
Secunda swings around for an armbar but Cordes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Secunda's guard.
Secunda manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Secunda wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Cordes looks gassed!

Cordes is squirming around, avoiding Secunda's attempts to control the action.
Secunda takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Secunda connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Cordes to escape the position.

Cordes prevents Secunda from getting a body triangle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Secunda is working for a rear naked choke. Cordes is not defending it well and Secunda has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Cordes refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Cordes's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Johnny Secunda!
